FOW, HESCHE, KALE, KOHL, KOIHL, KOLE, MERICH, PFAU posted by Chris Kale Corcoran on Monday, June 5, 2000

Still researching Frederick C. KALE (1821-1896) (KOIHL, KOHL) with Doro (1831-1907) and their children Christian, William, Clara, Henry, Rachel, Charles, & Frank. In 1850 Census, Crawford Co, Oh, Bucyrus Twp, p. 421 Frederick KOLE was with the John MERICH family; age & occupation match (teamster). Also 1850 Census Crawford Co Oh, Bucyrus Twp, p. 424 Dora FOW was enumerated with the Frederick HESCHE family - (Is this the "right" girl?) Also enumerated with her family Frederick & Christiana PFAU in Lykens Twp., Crawford Co. She married 1852 in Bucyrus. Frederick, Dora, & first five children enumerated in 1860 Tully Twp., Marion Co, Oh Census. Several children born in Letimberville or La Timbreville [now Kirkpatrick?] in northeast corner of Marion Co.) By 1870 were probably living in Indiana, as family was enumerated in 1880 Census Green Township, St. Joseph Co., IN Supposedly Frederick emigrated with a brother from Weisbaden either in 1834 or 1844. No other information known about the brother, but hoping the descendants of the "brother" will know about Frederick and might see this message!! Chris Kale Corcoran, Pittsburgh, PA

ANDERSON, ANDREWS, CLENDENNIN, WINTERS posted by Margaret Ruth Shank on Wednesday, June 7, 2000

Correction for Annis ANDREWS' Marriage 1 Feb 1821, Jefferson Co., OH. A researcher in Jefferson County, OH informs me that the marriage of my three ggrandparents has the bride listed as Annie ANDERSON to Eli WINTERS in both the "Sinclair book" and the database in the county clerk's office. I would like to have all records corrected to reflect that Annis ANDREWS, daughter of James ANDREWS and Margaret CLENDENNIN, married Eli WINTERS on 1 February 1821 in Jefferson Co., OH. After 1830 they moved to Crawford Co., OH where Annis died in 1879 and Eli, in 1884. Eli is found in both the Crawford and Mercer Co., OH census index for 1840, though it would be barely possible for the son Eli born 1823/4 in Jefferson Co., OH to be the Eli in Mercer Co in 1840. James, age 32, is listed in the 1880 Ligonier census (taken June 7, 1880) his son Frank, age 11, and James' sister, E. Sarah AGEE, age 36. James Otis AGEE served in 38th Unit of Ohio Regiment, Company E of Union Army. He entered the service at age 18 on October 4, 1864, and mustered out July 18, 1865, at Tripler(?) EGOLFF, MATEER, MATER, SHADE, SHALLEY, TROXEL posted by Arthur H. Laube on Thursday, June 15, 2000

Looking for an Adam SHALLEY (various spellings) born in the early to mid 17th century, the namesake of the five Adam SHALLEY's who appear in subsequent generations. He would have been the father of the progenitor Lucas Chalet SHALLEY who named his first son Adam. All of Johann Ludwig SHALLEY's sons, except Johan Lucas, were either named Adam or had a son named Adam. I have been trying to tie my Simon, born 1897, who named his first son born 1826, Adam, to one of the four possible Adam lines. One seems to dead-end in Germany and two others are ruled out by descendants who have researched these lines. That leaves one Adam. Lucas Chalet (JKH) Shalley (various spellings), (c1670-aft 1736 JKH) born and died in Theirwassen, Palatinate, Germany (Compiler Mary L. Waters), wife Anna Kathern (Unknown). Children: Johann Adam SHALLEY, & Johann Ludwig SHALLEY 1699 - 1778. Simon SHALLEY 1797 - 1871 (lived in Crawford County, Ohio ca 1860 and Columbus, Ohio ca 1865 until he died, buried in Greenlawn cemetery); wife, Sarah Jane EGOLFF 1798 - 1871. Children: Sarah Jane Shalley, Adam Shalley 1826 - Unknown, Anna Maria Shalley 1826 - ? married ____ SHADE, Annie Elizabeth Shalley 1827 - 1908 married William A. TROXEL 1830 - 1899, Henry Shalley 1828 - Unknown married Annie E. ______, Rebecca E. Shalley 1830 - 1907 married Samuel H. AWE, BAKER, BECKER, BOWERS posted by Jim Baker on Saturday, June 17, 2000

My g.g. grandfather was Jacob BAKER. He was born in 1846 in Wittenburg, Germany. I have no information on how Jacob ended up in Ohio, other than he was tied into the Adam and Catherine BOWERS family who lived in Chatfield Township. He may have been an indentured servant. When he enlisted with the 12th Ohio Volunteer Calvary on 10/1/1863 at Bucyrus, he listed Adam BOWERS as the recipient of his personal effects in the event of his death. He didn't die in the war, and married a woman named Amanda BECKER AWE on 10/29/1867. Does anyone have any information?

KERR, URICH posted by Patti on Tuesday, June 20, 2000

Many of "my" KERR family lived in Dallas and Whetstone Twps. (south of Bucyrus on Wyandot Rd.) in three successive generations and also in Wyandot/Marion Co.'s. Louisa KERR was the daughter of James KERR in Knox Co. and sister to James KERR on Wyandot Rd; Robert KERR in Marion; and Johson KERR in Wyandot. Since I have had no luck finding URICHs in Knox/Licking Co.'s, I am wondering if Louisa may have been introduced by one of her brothers to Robert URICH. Does anyone in the area know of any URICH families that would have been around prior to the Civil War? Thanks, Patricia

ACKERMAN, BEVINGTON, CARROTHERS, KELLER, SEXAUER, STOCKER, TEEL posted by Ron Stocker on Thursday, June 29, 2000

I am searching for any descendants of Hannah Yetta (STOCKER) KELLER (1822-1906) and her husband, Phillip KELLER (1818- ?). Both were members of large families which had been living in eastern Pennsylvania for almost 100 years before they were born. Hannah and Phillip married in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, on 1/3/1846. In the mid-1850's, Phillip brought his family to Crawford County, Ohio, together with his father and a brother and his family. They purchased several parcels of land near Sulphur Springs. Some of their acreage was in Liberty Township, while other land was located in Sandusky Township. All of their land, however, was located on or near the dividing line between those two townships. Of their nine total children, it would appear that the youngest three or four were born in Crawford County. I have names of spouses for five of them: Maria B. KELLER (born 1846), married Unknown BEVINGTON; Sabina E. KELLER (born 1847), married Leander TEEL; Susanna E. KELLER (born 1849); John Henry KELLER (born 1851), married Ellen Caroline SEXAUER; Sarah Ann KELLER (born 1854); Ellen S. KELLER (born 1856); Abilene L. KELLER (born 1858); Lydia Ann KELLER (born 1860), married Charles S. ACKERMAN; Amos Francis KELLER (born 1864), married Harriet Maudesta CARROTHERS. Believe one of the daughters never married and was the postmistress in Sulphur Springs. Amos Francis, of course, was a judge in Crawford County in the early 20th century. He was followed to the bench by his daughter, Constance KELLER. Hannah KELLER was the younger sister of my 2x great-grandfather, Andrew P. STOCKER, who had moved to Tuscarawas County, Ohio, around 1838. I would be interested in exchanging information with anyone who may be descended from Hannah STOCKER KELLER.
