DOTY, HAYCOOK posted by Richard Haycook on Wednesday, February 3, 1999

HAYCOOK family of Bucyrus, Crawford Co. OH. I have a large database for this surname which covers from present day back to about 1770 New Jersey. The first family migrants to OH were brothers Amos and David HAYCOOK from northern NJ in 1842. They settled in the Columbus and Harlem Twp area. The rest of their siblings stayed in NJ and NY at that time. However, the Bucyrus group is the most puzzling. I can not determine from whom they are descended, nor determine the family groupings. For example: Recently Charles (Eddy) HAYCOOK died at age 85. He was a local barber for 50+ years. I have his parents names (father Charles, mother Edith? DOTY) and the names of 3 siblings. His wife's name was Thelma (Sally) and she died about 1974. I've estimated the elder Charles born about 1880 but do not have a connection for him anywhere in my database. I will assume for now that all of the Bucyrus Haycooks are related to each other. I'm missing something but can't tell what. If I can connect this group to the rest of the database a large group of "orphans" will have finally found a home. I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone researching this family or who has a connection to it. I'll be glad to share what I have in hopes of helping both of us. I am trying to find out if there was a place called Seneca in Crawford County. Maybe it was an old township that no longer exists? Records say that my great grandfather Samuel SHAFNER LINTNER was born there on 18 Jan 1843. I am trying to track him down. He was probably born on a farm. He served in the Civil War in the 113th Illinois. Any ideas? Thank you, Shela Norton Greenlaw from rainy California

BUCK, LINN, SINN posted by Melanie Young on Friday, February 12, 1999

My husband's ancestor, George Wilhelm LINN, had many people in his residence for the 1840 census. I do not have these people accounted for. I noticed that there was a Pascalena SINN daughter of Geo W who married Lewis BUCK in 1849 in Crawford Co., OH, marriages book. I have not been able to find a Geo W SINN anywhere and was wondering if the clerk that recorded the marriage may have miswritten the L in LINN as an S in SINN. Does anyone have a record of a Geo W SINN with a daughter Pascalena supported by anything other than Pascalena's marriage record? Melanie

KELLER, STOCKER posted by Ron Stocker on Wednesday, February 17, 1999

KELLER Family I have been researching the STOCKER family for about 10 years. They settled in eastern Pa in 1730, after immigrating from what is now Switzerland. My great-great grandfather, Andrew P. STOCKER (1817-1897), moved to Tuscarawas County in 1839. His sister, Hannah, married Philip KELLER in about 1846 in Northhampton County, Pa. In the mid-1850's, the patriarch of the KELLER family, John, and his two sons, one of whom was Philip, moved to Crawford County and settled in Sandusky Twp, near Sulphur Springs. One of Philip and Hannah's sons was a judge and owned one of the banks in Bucyrus. He was also the father of Juvenile Judge KELLER, for whom, of course, KELLER Hall in Galion was named. I am interested in obtaining whatever information may be available regarding this branch of the family. I am also willing to share all information that I have.
