BAIR, COOK, CRAMER posted by Bailey Francis on Wednesday, December 6, 2000

I would be very interested in sharing information with anyone who has any connection to or information about this BAIR family in the 1860 census for Bucyrus: Levi, foundry worker, age 36, born OH; Barbary, 35, born Baden; Catherine, 14; George, 12; Rebecca, 10, Susannah, 8; Benjamin, 6; William, 4; Levi, 2; and Reuben, 6 mo. (children all born in OH). This family moved to Rutland, Humboldt Co IA by the 1870 census. Levi died 1877 there from illness resulting from service with 4th OH Volunteer Infantry during Civil War. Barbara CRAMER BAIR, his wife, died 1889 Ft Dodge, Webster Co IA. In the 1880 Rutland IA census, there is a George BAIR, age 32, born OH with his wife Mary, age 31, born Germany, with his family. Reuben "Rube" BAIR was a farmer near Rutland, IA. William, above, was Dr. William Medill BAIR, my wife's great grandfather born 1856, died 1936 Des Moines Polk Co IA. William was married to Rosa Belle COOK and were the parents of Carl Morris BAIR, Sr. my wife's grandfather. I have a photograph taken ca 1898-1900 entitled "Carl & his Cousins". BOLLERER, HOFLICH, SCHWEINFURTH, SICKMILLER, SICKMULLER posted by Peter Sickmüller on Friday, December 15, 2000

I'm looking for all female SICKMILLER who are recorded under the married name. I'm searching the family of Georg BOLLERER who was married to Elisabetha SICKMULLER and arrived at Galion from Germany about 1880. Also I'm searching for the family of Maria Katherina (Catherine) SICKMULLER, maiden name HOFLICH. I guess her HOFLICH family migrated to Galion too. On my list is also Johann Georg SICKMULLER, married to Katherina SCHWEINFURTH with her children Peter, Barbara, Catherine and Margot. I guess the SCHWEINFURTH family migrated to Galion too, so I'm interested in the appearance of the name SCHWEINFURTH in Galion. DURNWALD, HIESEL, LUCIUS, SHIEFER, WENZLICK posted by Steve Frank on Saturday, December 16, 2000

Researching the following Crawford County families: LUCIUS, DURNWALD, HIESEL, WENZLICK, SHIEFER My wife's ancestors are the DURNWALD family from New Washington. In the records we have researched, there is a reference to Essen. There is an Essen, Westfalen which is a large, industrial city. There is also an Essen between the cities of Oldenburg and Osnabruck in the Oldenburg/ Hanover region of Germany. I am not very knowledgeable of the migration patterns of the Crawford County residents. I thought that perhaps there maybe other people with ancestors from Essen. If so, they may help us zero in on the ancestral home of the DURNWALD family. Thanks for your help. Steve and Donna Frank

SCHOWALTER, SHOWALTER posted by Bill Barton on Sunday, December 17, 2000

My SCHOWALTER/SHOWALTER ancestors arrived New York City 16 Sept. 1836 aboard the "Henri IV" from Le Havre, France. The family consisted of father Hein, mother Margaret and 3 children Hein (Henry), Martin & Ana. As far as I can tell their first residence in the U.S. was in Crawford Co., when on 20 Sept. 1839 the 2 sons each bought 80 acres of Van Wert Co. land at the Lima Land Office. In the 1840 census the whole family resided in Lima Twp., Allen Co. So their stay in Crawford Co. was brief. Apparently they did not pay taxes (1836-8) or own land in Crawford Co. I am trying to discover from where these S(C)HOWALTERS came. Their naturalization papers simply state Bavaria. I have a copy of the "Henri IV" passenger list and have determined that several of their fellow passengers came from the Rhineland-Pfalz, which at that time was part of Bavaria. So probably my S(C)HOWALTERS also came from the Rhineland-Pfalz. I have also compared the names on the passenger list with the Ohio 1840 census and found none of the fellow passengers living in Crawford Co. So why did my S(C)HOWALTERS select Crawford Co. as their destination when they emigrated? Any suggestions as to how to proceed with this research would be much appreciated. Bill Barton, Stamford, CT

BAIR, CRAMER, WINGERT posted by Bailey Francis on Sunday, December 31, 2000

In the 1860 Crawford County census, there is a family in household 710 Bucyrus headed by Henry WINGERT, age 50 and wife Catherine, age 46, both of whom were born in the Baden region of Germany. His occupation is listed as "Foundry". They are living next door to my wife's second great grandparents, Levi and Barbara (CRAMER) BAIR in household 709. Barbary, as she is shown in the census, was also born in Baden. Levi's occupation is also shown as "Foundry", and I know from family history and his widow's Civil War pension file that he owned or ran a foundry in Crawford and/ or Marion Counties, OH. I am exploring the possibility that Catherine (__?__ ) WINGERT may have been a sister or other relation of Levi or Barbara (CRAMER) BAIR. There is also a second WINGERT family from Baden in the Bucyrus census headed by Jacob WINGERT, who may be related to Henry. If anyone is related to this WINGERT family and knows the maiden name of Henry WINGERT's wife, Catherine, I would appreciate hearing from you. Bailey Francis bfran02@learnlink.emory.edu

BAIR, CRAMER posted by Bailey Francis on Sunday, December 31, 2000

In household 720 of the 1860 Bucyrus, Crawford County, OH, census is a family headed by John CRAMER, age 46, shoemaker, born in Baden, with wife Catherine, 46, born in OH, and a number of children. They are living very close to Levi and Barbara (CRAMER) BAIR, who are in household 709. I am exploring the possibility that John CRAMER may have been an older brother or other relation to Barbara (CRAMER) BAIR, who was also born in Baden. I would love to hear from anyone with ties to this family to explore a possible connection. Bailey Francis bfran02@learnlink.emory.edu

PARSEL, PLUMMER posted by Bill Plummer on Sunday, December 31, 2000

Searching for relatives or friends of Rosemary "Rosie" PARSEL. Better known as Rosie from "The Huddle," a steak house in Crestline, Crawford County, Ohio I believe. I also believe Rosemary lived in Bucyrus, Ohio. She is the daughter of Frank and Eva PLUMMER of Bucyrus. I am hoping my query will get me in touch with a member of the family so I can find out when Rosie died and perhaps get a copy of the obit. I don't even know if Rosie had children! Are there any Parsels living in Bucyrus today? Bill PLUMMER wlp@fiber-net.com
