FOUGHT, MATEER, SHALLEY posted by Arthur H. Laube on Monday, April 19, 1999

Subject: Samuel MATEER Samuel MATEER married Rebecca SHALLEY September 29, 1859 in Crawford County. By 1860 he is in Columbus, Ohio working as stationery engineer and machinist for the Pennsylvania RR. Samuel first married to Margaret FOUGHT in about 1849 near Carlisle, PA. He worked on the famous Incline Plane Portage RR at Holidaysburg and later we speculate that he worked for the PRR as they surveyed, laid track and came into Northern Ohio. We think his first wife died or was divorced in about 1859, leaving him with a nine-year-old daughter, Sally/Sarah and he promptly married Rebecca who was also from Carlisle, PA. Any comments about the arrival of the PRR into Crawford County, in the 1850's? Arthur H. Laube 23 Clover Dr. Chapel Hill, NC 27514. zurlauben@mindspring.com

BAUGHMAN, HOADLEY, MCKEAN posted by Carolyn Anderson Clark on Sunday, April 25, 1999

I am trying to find the parents of Emily Ann HOADLEY, born June 1852 (from census), and according to her first marriage record, she was born in Crawford County Ohio. Her first marriage was to a George Washington MCKEAN, who was born about 1845 in Carroll County, Ohio. They were in Michigan in 1868 when they married, but she may have appeared in Crawford in the 1860 census; she would have been about 7 or 8 years old. G. W. MCKEAN may have been in the 1850 and 1860 Carroll County censuses. I would also like to find the parents of G. W. MCKEAN. I am also seeking Nelson HOADLEY, born 1835, who may have been her father (at only 17?) or her brother, so am looking for him in Crawford County, 1860 and before. G. W. died by the early 1880's. Nelson was in Licking County by 1876 and Emily was in Licking by about 1881. If Nelson had a first wife, she must have died before 1876. They married brother and sister BAUGHMANs, in Fallsbury Township, Licking County, Ohio. If there are any HOADLEY or MCKEAN researchers on the list, do you have a branch of any of these names? Any assistance in lookups, or finding them as siblings of your lines would be wonderful! Carolyn (Anderson) Clark

Several of my great grandmother's sisters and brothers were residents there according to several censuses, but what happened to them, I do not know. From looking at the Huron County list, I see that the residents were buried in a cemetery on the grounds, in their case.
